Honorary Mayor of Fair Oaks
It has come to my attention that not everyone is familiar with the Honorary Mayor position for the community of Fair Oaks. Every year the Fair Oaks Chamber of Commerce elects an Honorary Mayor. Since Fair Oaks is not an incorporated entity this is a position without power, hence the “Honorary”.
The entire campaign is a fund raising event for the Fair Oaks Chamber of Commerce and the charity or project in Fair Oaks that the Honorary Mayor candidate selects to represent. Votes are dollars; therefore, whoever raises the most money is “elected” to the Honorary Mayor position of Fair Oaks for the next year.
The money raised is split 50-50 between the charity and the Chamber whether or not the candidate “wins” the election. Voting occurs during fun events put on by the candidate and their supporters, raffles, and just plain old donations. It is the only election that allows you to vote as often as you like, the more the better. That is why the slogan for all candidates is “Vote Early, Vote Often”.
Recipients of past mayoral campaigns have included the concrete dance floor for kids in Fair Oaks Park, a trailer for the Bella Vista Band, benches in Fair Oaks Village, Fair Oaks signs, etc. The more candidates we have the more money that can be raised for the Chamber and for charitable events.
Right now is the kickoff of the election period for Honorary Mayor for 2008-2009, so declare your candidacy for Mayor, recruit your campaign workers, pick your charity, collect your votes and have a good time.
Otherwise, attend mayoral events and vote often, make sure to make your checks payable to the Candidate’s mayoral account.

A Bit About Mac Huss A loving husband, father, community leader, and builder of spirit was Mac Huss. In 1966 he moved with his family to Fair Oaks. He then became president of the Fair Oaks Chamber of Commerce in 1979, and in 1983 was elected president of Fair Oaks Rotary. He was one of the original founders of American River Bank, and was on the Board of Fish (Friends Interested In Severely Handicapped). He was a pilot, an avid golfer and president of his own building company. When he was president of Fair Oaks Rotary, his project was to build a house in a day. It happened! The club raised enough money to help remodel the downstairs of the Fair Oaks Community Center. This tournament is in memory of Mac’s passion for life, adventure and golf, and in keeping his spirit of community involvement alive in Fair Oaks.
